Chris Ofili – Afro Margin
In 2009, Chris Ofili presented a suite of eight drawings at David Zwirner gallery in New York entitled Afro Margin. This exhibition was a step away from the large colourful paintings he is most known for and explored the idea of “the margin” through a repeating motif of “afro heads”. As these columns of afro heads move around on the paper from piece to piece, lines and shapes bleed from them like tributaries that extend to the edge of the work.
In association with the exhibition, Radius Books produced a catalogue, in a limited edition of 500, signed and numbered by the artist. The catalogue includes tritone reproductions of all eight images printed on heavy stock paper. To accompany the images, there is a poem by Inua Ellams and an essay by Cameron Shaw
Chris Ofili is represented by Victoria Miro in the UK
